And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.

As Jim Elliot, who was martyred in missionary service in Ecuador, would say, “He is no fool who gives what he cannot keep to gain that which he cannot lose.”

What are we giving to Christ today?

So what is the pressure in your life right now? Is it dividing you from the Savior or pressing you closer to Him?

We shouldn’t be surprised. Jesus told us this would happen. When we live righteous, counter-cultural, Biblical lives, it will offend this dark world.

When the heavens shall ring, and the angels sing, When the heavens shall ring, and the angels sing,
At Thy coming to victory,
Let Thy voice call me home, saying "Yet there is room,
There is room at My side for thee."
My heart shall rejoice, Lord Jesus,
When Thou comest and callest for me.

He left His throne in heaven, dwelling on earth with sinful man, in order to make it possible for us to dwell with Him for eternity. He desires to be close to us; He was motivated by His love for us. Today let’s be motivated by love for Him as we ponder all that it meant for Jesus to leave His throne—for us.

1 John 3:1 Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God...

Ephesians 1:5-6 (KJV) 5 Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will, 6 To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.
Thou camest, O Lord, with the living word That sho Thou camest, O Lord, with the living word
That should set Thy people free;
But with mocking scorn, and with crown of thorn,
They bore Thee to Calvary.
O come to my heart, Lord Jesus,
There is room in my heart for Thee.

This hymn was written by Emily Elliott as a mnemonic way to teach the Gospel to Sunday School children. It is not just a Christmas gun, because it tells the story of Christ—His coming, and WHY He came.

“The mighty One has chosen to dwell with us, to trade His rightful crown for one of ignoble scorn in order to revive our broken spirits and redeem our wayward hearts.” —Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth
